This post is so timely for me because for the first time in 18 months I have to get up, get dressed and go out to work every – single – day. Regular readers of the blog will know that I was working as a full time blogger so I had little need for stylish workwear unless I had an event or meeting to go to. Working in your joggers is enjoyable but the novelty soon wore off and I have missed having a work wardrobe.

True that my work doesn’t require formal suiting and I can wear pretty much whatever I like but there are times when you just need the clothes to do the talking for you and tell the world you mean business. Know what I mean?

Dress for success

I am a firm believer in the power of clothing, changing your outfit can have a huge impact on how you feel. It might not fix your problems but chances are if you look the part you will soon start to feel like the real deal. A powerful outfit can really boost your confidence, I swear by it!

Bold prints and Breton tops make me feel happy, cashmere is hugely comforting and a blazer and heels make me feel like I’ve got my s*** together. So as I navigate the unchartered waters of the entrepreneurial world I’m happy to join forces with Next to bring an edit of my favourite workwear pieces.

I chose a few pieces that suggest classic workwear and tailoring but are in fact very feminine and have the kind of detailing that elevates the whole outfit into a rather chic ensemble.

The first thing that caught my eye was this asymmetric skirt. The pinstripe says business but the skirt is floaty and soft – it has huge potential as well. You can wear it with a blazer as I have done here but swap the blazer for a biker or a denim jacket and you’re all set for an evening out. Pieces that work as hard as you do are worth investing in time and time again!

Rethinking workwear

For the top I chose this fab t-shirt embellished with pearls, they are all over the high street at the moment. Could they be last season’s embroidery equivalent? This top is luxe and fuss free at an affordable price.

And because accessories can make or break an outfit I’ve gone for these cut out shoe boots but be warned: they come in several colours and you will want them all!

Finally you can’t go far wrong with a tote bag, this one comes in grey and black. It’s big enough to carry the kitchen sink if you wish, I can comfortably fit my MacBook and a pouch with my essentials. That’s my top tip by the way, keep your essentials in a pouch so you don’t have to empty the whole thing out in search of your car keys or your debit card. You’re welcome!

Do you have a workwear uniform? Have you updated your wardrobe recently?

I love this article and I too am a firm believer in dressing well makes you feel so much more like you’ve ‘got this’!
However when I ride my scooter to the office, I can’t always wear what I really want to wear so I often end up having to choose what I want to wear, the night before so that when I get up I don’t spend half an hour staring into my wardrobe wondering what to put on!
You look gorgeous in your work wear! xx

I always try to dress smart for work and love wearing blazers, as they really smarten up any outfit. I always choose my accessories very carefully and love wearing practical handbags.
I love those boots, will need to check them out.

You look fab!!! My (current) office moved away from businesss wear to casual about a year ago now. I’m now moving jobs and have to go back to business wear – EEK! You’ve given me plenty of inspiration so I feel a bit more confident about expressing my style but going back to being smart 🙂
