It’s Bonfire Night in the UK and it’s one of my favourite days in the autumn calendar because it’s so entwined with tradition: fireworks, sparklers, sausages, toffee apples, you get the picture.
I always cook a chilli on Bonfire night, my favourite recipe comes courtesy of Mr Jamie Oliver. It’s straight out of one of his early books, Happy Days with the Naked Chef and tastes so, so good thanks to the addition of a cheeky cinnamon stick which gives it real depth of flavour. This meal is just the ticket before heading out to watch fireworks as it’s guaranteed to warm you up and line your stomach for whatever it is you are carrying in that hip flask… I’m not alone here, am I?
Piling loads of layers on before hitting the cool November air, is something else I love to do. I don’t know why it brings me so much joy but it does. Perhaps it’s the children’s colourful knitwear or maybe the smug feeling of knowing (hoping) that I am so well insulated that I won’t feel the cold. Oh! by the way, if you love a blanket scarf but struggle with how to actually wear it – they can be so bulky can’t they? – you must watch this short clip from my friend and fellow blogger Nese, showing you just how to do it.
I spent a bit of time in Zara this week and completely fell in love with this special edition scarf it has a good weight to it and the gold starts will add a touch of glitz and glam to your outfit.

While we’re talking shopping, La Redoute have a crazy offer from now until the 20th November offering £25 off when you spend over £50, spend over £100 to get £50 off and get £100 off when you spend over £200. Just use the code XMAS at the check out. They’ve also got a further 40% off party wear, coats and boots. I’ve had a quick look and the standout pieces for me are this metallic ruffle blouse and this gold skirt are really good buys. You would get an enormous amount of milage out of the blouse and the skirt is a real show stopper if you are thinking ahead to the party season.
I’m planning on spending a little quality time with their site over the weekend, I’ll let you know how I get on.
Happy Bonfire Night lovelies!

You know as much as I really DISLIKE the cold, there is something wonderful about cosying up in chunky knits. So two thumbs up to chili and I’ll have to check out the Zara bits too, it’s been a while since I did some shopping Xx
