Holiday Style

Minimal Style Summer Flatlay

There’s nothing quite like the unpredictable and frankly miserable British weather to put me in the mood for my annual summer holiday to Menorca. It’s still a way off for us but it’s never too early to give some though to your holiday style and indulge in a spot of shopping, is it?

I like to add a few pieces to my holiday wardrobe every year and it’s important to plan ahead, as early as spring if you can. I know it sounds premature but I’ve been caught out before, shopping for swimwear in July is practically impossible as autumn clothing begins to appear by mid July/ end of August.

I spend about three weeks in Menorca every summer with my parents. I travel with hand luggage only, yes really, so I am a bit of a holiday capsule wardrobe Ninja! My holiday wardrobe consists of a few classic pieces that are stylish and easy to wear and can be worn day or night with a quick change of accessories. I like to be practical and travel light so you won’t find any bodycon dresses or high heels in my suitcase!

Simple and co-ordinated

Simple dresses and tunics in co-ordinating colours and styles form the basis of my holiday wardrobe. They tend to be loose-fitting to keep me cool, they are easy to wear to the beach and decent enough for the evening. The are plenty of options on the high street, Zara and & Other Stories always have a good selection. In addition I throw in a decent pair of shorts, denim or khaki and some good fitting t-shirts. I’ve just treated myself to some lovely ones from Hush and GAP is still a good place to go for quality tees.

My footwear options include a tan pair of leather sandals for daytime trips and evenings out and a pair of flip-flops for the beach. No high heels in my suitcase ladies unless it’s got a wedge heel and is super comfortable. I find that high heels on holiday look a bit try hard and can be really uncomfortable if your feet swell in the heat.

In terms of accessories, a straw basket is a must because they are just so darn practical and cheap as chips if you shop around for one. I also pack a clutch bag for the evening – this is where I might have a bit of fun and add a bit of colour. Finally, I do love a bangle so I pack a stack that I have had for years – a flash of coral nail polish (my favourite for summer), a Panama hat and I’m good to go!
